Effigy head pots, crafted between 1200 and 1500 CE, represent some of the most sophisticated and culturally significant ceramic forms created by the Mississippian people. Beyond their exquisite craftsmanship, these vessels provide tangible connections to identity, spiritual beliefs, and cultural practices. Building upon these historical precedents, the sculptures reimagine these ancient vessels in metal and glass, highlighting their resilience, adaptability, and enduring presence in contemporary Native American art.

Patterns emerge, veining and ringing that mimic nature’s art, each gesture an ode to the earth’s own creativity. The heated metal, now a canvas, receives these chemicals, transforming under hawk-like fidelity patina. Bringing to life this Chickasaw Elder.
